After few uses making protein shakes, the mixture was oozing out the bottom of the pitcher and running down over the base. During a brainstorming call to KitchenAid customer support, I discovered that the silicone (I assume) gasket was abraded and the source of the leak. How that happened is curious. You cannot secure the blender/blade assembly onto the base unless the glass jar has been attached to the blade assembly with two clicks. While it appears that the gasket is immoveably tight, it obviously can shift during use, and be caught by the blades – a glaring design flaw. At any rate, customer support led me on an odyssey for over two weeks, telling me first that gaskets are on backorder, then telling me that a replacement gasket was on a FedEx truck en route to my house, then telling me again that they were on backorder. I wanted to order and pay for extra gaskets (in addition to the free one to be provided under warranty), and learned from their parts department that KitchenAid will only provide the gaskets on an as-needed basis —- when and if they ever get them. Meanwhile, the unusable blender accessorized my kitchen and we couldn’t make shakes. Fortunately, Amazon has a generous return policy and I was able to unload it. Sometime during this saga I remembered that several years ago my KitchenAid mixer sat in a repair shop for a year and a half until KitchenAid begrudgingly provided repair parts. I am so done with KitchenAid.

I have an ancient old KitchenAid blender that’s on its last legs. I keep it around and hold onto it with my life because it seems the last of its kind, as you can use the base with a Wide-Mouth Mason Jar and blend right in the mason jar for easy cleanup. Yes, I know it’s easy enough to clean the regular jar, but why should I have to?
I was really hoping that this outwardly beautiful blue machine would be able to replace my old blender, but no go. While KA is still using a nice, wide base for its blender, they’ve redesigned it in such a way that you CANNOT use a mason jar with it at all.
Why do these companies continue to take functions AWAY from what should be a pretty useful appliance?
I rated the blender 3 stars because I’m sure that it’s overall a great blender, and I love the blue, but wanted to rate it 1 for taking away the mason jar option.
Oster should be praised for keeping with at least a regular mason jar-compatible design (actually, I love the all-metal design of their blade, even if the seals are a bit of a pain), but I’d really like to be able to use the wide mouth jars, ’cause sometimes you have stuff that you need to remove with a big spoon.

Honestly, I’ve been using KitchenAid products for a decade. I broke my last blender. (entirely my fault) They have changed the design in this model and actually improved on what was already a five star appliance.
The carafe shape is better for making sure the stuff inside doesn’t just swirl around. It is a non-circular shape so food folds into itself and mixes better.
I bought it to make smoothies in the morning. I can drop frozen fruit and yogurt into this puppy and the chop ice setting will pulse it into a pulp wonderfully. Then switch to blend to complete the process.
The pieces are easier to take apart and put back together for cleaning too.
I have to say, I am glad I destroyed my old blender; or I would never have realized what a great improvement this model is.
Highly recommended to someone who wants to buy the last blender they will ever need. (if you don’t drop it 3 floors to the pavement) If you are used to buying cheap $50 blenders, please consider that those are meant to break down after a while. KitchenAid lasts forever. Ask any pro who uses Hobart (the commercial name) how long these last.
